Textbook: Abstract Algebra by J.B. Fraleigh (Seventh Edition)
The aim of this course is to present the elementary theory of groups,
which is a basic tool in all abstract mathematics. We shall study the
basic properties of these abstract objects and discuss many concrete examples.
We intend to cover Chapters 1-4.
The final grade of this course will be based on:
-
twe midterm exams (40%)
-
one final exam (40%)
-
homework/quizz (20%)
The exams will consist of problems similar to, but different from the
problems/examples in the book and in the lectures.
