The UCI Mathematics Department will be hosting a special workshop for local high school students. In this two-hour workshop, students will do some fun, hands-on activities to explore college-level abstract mathematics topics. Activities include building an AI machine out of matchboxes and nerds candy and exploring abstract algebra through lace up "snap" cards.
This workshop is particularly designed for high school students interested in pursuing careers in science, engineering and technology who would like to get a feel for how mathematics might be useful in their future studies. This is also a great opportunity for potential UCI students to see the UCI campus and meet some mathematics professors.
Immediately following the High School Mathematics Workshop is a special public lecture on "The Science Behind Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak". (See separate events posting).

This event is free (though campus parking fees do apply).
No RSVP is required!
