Course content

The course will cover the topics listed in the course catalog. Linear algebra is one of the fundamental bodies of basic mathematical knowledge and is essential in almost every mathematical field and in most applications. Therefore, Mathematics 121A is a rigorous study of fairly abstract concepts. This is different from the mainly operational skills of multiplying specific matrices taught in 3A and similar lower division courses.

If you do not need a full course in upper-division linear algebra and are not required to take 121A for your major, you may find it more advantageous to take Mathematics 199, where you choose both the subjectmatter and the pace, and work with the instructor one on one.
