CONCENTRATION AND SPECIALIZATIONS
The
Concentration in Mathematics for Economics
is designed for students with a strong interest in mathematics who
would like to use their mathematical background to obtain a solid
foundation in the fundamentals of modern economics. This program will
prepare students for a variety of options after graduation, including
direct employment in the business world, entry into an MBA program,
or advanced graduate education in either economics or in mathematics.
Apply after completion of Economics 20A-B.

The
Specialization in
Applied and Computational Mathematics
is designed for students with a strong interest in mathematics and in
mathematical applications to areas of science and engineering. By
choosing elective courses carefully, students completing this
specialization will be prepared for a career in a variety of
computing and/or engineering areas. Students will also be prepared
to seek a Master's degree in one of these areas or to continue on to
a graduate program in Applied Mathematics.

The
Specialization in Mathematics for Education focuses
on courses that are especially useful for prospective Mathematics
teachers. A CCTC-approved subject matter program (SMP) in Mathematics
can be easily satisfied in tandem with this specialization, enabling
students to waive a subject matter exam for teachers (see
http://www.gse.uci.edu/AP_SMPP_Math.php).

The
Specialization in Statistics track
stipulates that Mathematics major requirements F and H must include
31A-B-C or Stats 120A-B-C, 130B-C or 132B-C, and two additional
courses approved in advance by the Department for this
specialization, such as Math 105A-B, 176, or 171A-B.
